News of the tragedy emerged on Tuesday as a court in Montreal, Canada sentenced a man to 13 years in jail for killing his best friend while they played a drug-fuelled game of Russian roulette.

Toru Syed, 30, was first arrested for having killed his friend Rakib Ullah Mohammed, 20, in August 2011.

Syed shot the victim after both had consumed drugs and alcohol inside his pal’s apartment.

He was initially charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter in 2016.

In another incident, three violent burglars were said to have played Russian roulette with terrified British expats when they raided their home in Santa Cristina D'Aro, on Spain's Costa Brava, in May 2013.

The trio put a gun to the head of their female victim and told her it had three bullets in it before apparently pulling the trigger twice in a sadistic bid to force the couple into telling them where they kept their money.
