New hotel opens in former Ford factory

News from Oaks Hotels
Oaks Wellington Hotel has officially opened in Courtenay Place, marking the debut of industry leaders Oak Hotels, Resorts & Suites in New Zealand’s Capital.

Ideally located within the thriving CBD, the hotel holds a prime position for those wanting to immerse themselves in the city’s world-class creative, culinary and cultural offerings for which it is renowned.

Formerly the Ford vehicle assembly plant – originally constructed in 1922, the building is one of Wellington’s most prominent and iconic buildings on Courtenay place. The site has undergone a multi-million-dollar transformation into a sleek, 226-key, nine storey hotel, designed for the modern traveller.

Delivering Oaks’ smart simplicity, Oaks Wellington Hotel’s 30 different room configurations are designed with a functional layout, each with complimentary WIFI, Smart TVs with Sky channel access, modern bathroom amenities, tea and coffee making facilities and international power converters available at reception. Select room types boast sweeping views of Lambton Harbour, private balconies and fully equipped kitchens.

Paying homage to the history of the building, the original framework has been retained, while stylish finishes of marble, aged walnut, white stone and coated steel feature throughout. The chic and modern interiors include custom-made furniture with soft furnishings featuring the signature Oaks cool blue tone.

The on-site Oak & Vine restaurant offers sophisticated and contemporary Kiwi-inspired cuisine with a Mediterranean influence, from the mind of Executive Chef Kit Foe. Oak & Vine serves guests a daily buffet breakfast bar and an a la carte lunch and dinner menu. Designed for sharing, the menu features delicate flatbreads served with thyme and beetroot hummus, locally-sourced Te Kouma Bay Pacific oysters, twelve-hour slow cooked lamb shoulder served with green beans and chat potatoes, and the signature Oak & Vine charcuterie board complete with artesian meat and Pâté.

Guests have access to the fitness and wellness centre, car park and transfer services and babysitting services. With corporate guests in mind, the hotel offers executive meeting rooms and function spaces, as well as a business hub in the foyer with high-speed internet.

“We are thrilled to see Oaks Wellington Hotel come to fruition,” said Mr Jamie Donnell, General Manager, Oaks Wellington Hotel. “Our property brings a fresh flavour to the offerings in the booming city of Wellington, with a powerful mix of culture, rich history, delectable cuisines, and world-class coffee and craft beers. We believe that this hotel will be the ideal addition to Wellington’s investment in quality infrastructure and tourism assets, which in turn creates positive economic, social and environmental benefits for New Zealanders and visitors.” Donnell said.

Mr Craig Hooley, Chief Operating Officer, Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites, commented “Wellington is a dynamic city with so much to offer and continues to enjoy strong tourism growth, particularly from Australian markets”
