The horrific moment a car ploughed through a fence and crashed into a nursery was caught on camera.

Emergency services were called to Beacon Church of England Primary School on Heyworth Street, Everton, yesterday morning after a white Mercedes smashed through a wall into an empty classroom. The incident occurred at around 8.30am - just a few minutes before nursery pupils were due to start their lessons for the day.

Dashcam footage of the shocking crash has been shared on social media. In it, the white Mercedes can be seen emerging from Mere Lane, crashing into the back of another Mercedes before cutting across Heyworth Street, forcing a passing black van to emergency brake.

The car gained speed before going through the metal and wooden fences surrounding the school. Dust and debris filled the air as it crashed into the wall, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the nursery.

The school was evacuated following the crash and remained closed for the day while a structural engineer was called to assess the damage. It was reopened today, April 22.

Merseyside Police said the driver was assessed at the scene, while a passenger travelling in the car suffered what was described as a minor injury. A 39-year-old woman from Walton was later arrested on suspicion of drug driving and careless driving and taken to a police station for questioning. She has since been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Beacon CE School said “We are shocked at today’s incident but relieved that no children were in the classroom at the time. We would like to thank staff for the calm and professional manner in which they have dealt with this and for pupils, parents and carers for responding well and enabling us to evacuate the area safely. We are also very grateful for the prompt response of the emergency services."
