A young man was struck in the face with a baseball bat so two other guys could steal his cell phone April 13 in Fresh Meadows, police reported — and they hope you can help find the pair.

The violence unfolded at about 7:06 p.m. as the victim, 22, was walking home near the corner of 189th Street and Aberdeen Road. The perpetrators hit the man in the face and head with the bat, took his phone and jogged up the street to their getaway car.

Video provided by the police shows one get into the front passenger seat and another into the driver’s side rear seat of the car, a Pontiac Grand Am, a vehicle last produced in 2005. The car is black with a low wing on the trunk lid, and the driver took it north on 189th Street toward Union Turnpike.

Neither perpetrator is carrying the bat in the video. The police press office did not immediately respond when asked if they had dropped it at the scene and which of them did the hitting.

One individual is described as a male with light complexion, approximately in his 20s. He was last seen wearing a red-hooded sweater, gray pants and brown boots.

The other is described as a male with light complexion and beard. He was last seen wearing a black sweater, black pants, a black hat and black sneakers.

Emergency Medical Services responded and took the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens hospital, the former Booth Memorial Hospital, in Flushing, in stable condition, police said.

The area where the robbery occurred is a relatively wealthy one, with detached, single-family homes, some of the size and style derided as “McMansion.” Jamaica Estates is but a block to the west, and Cunningham Park three blocks to the east. The 107th Precinct has jurisdiction.

Robbery is down slightly in the precinct so far this year, according to NYPD Compstat statistics compiled through April 21, with 39 complaints in 2024 compared to 42 filed by the same time in 2023, for a 7.1 percent decline. Felony assault has increased 25.4 percent however, going from 67 reports through April 21 last year to 84 so far this year.
