2018 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS spied

The new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS has been spied doing the rounds at the Nurburgring Norschleife.

The prototype seen here is equipped with the Sports Design package's front bumper and rear diffuser. If the pre-facelift Boxster GTS is anything to go by, these elements should be a close approximation of what we'll see on the production model.

The wealth of testing paraphernalia on the dashboard indicates this vehicle wasn't purchased from a showroom. The prototype also features cross-drilled front brakes with red callipers.

The new GTS is expected to ditch the old model's 243kW/370Nm 3.4-litre horizontally-opposed six-cylinder motor for a version of the 718 Boxster S' 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine.

While the motor in the S produces 257kW of power and 420Nm of torque, the GTS should have a little bit more oomph to its name. Given the facelifted 718 Boxster S is already quicker to 100km/h than the old GTS, a 0-100km/h time around the 4.0 second mark should be no problem.

Standard features should include active suspension, styling modifications, and a snarlier exhaust note. Six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions are expected to be offered.

The new 718 Boxster GTS will likely make its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show in September.
