Liverpool have reportedly dropped their interest in Monaco attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar.

The France international is no longer among Jurgen Klopp's list of transfer targets for the summer window, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 22-year-old had been seen as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho last month after his £145m move to Barcelona.

Reports in France this week claimed Lemar had turned down a new deal at the Ligue 1 club, fuelling further debate over his future.

But Liverpool, it appears, have pulled out of the race to sign him, handing Premier League rivals Arsenal a huge boost.

The Reds held talks with Monaco in August, attempting to thrash out a late deal for the youngster, but were unable to agree on a fee.

And despite sanctioning the departure of Coutinho in January, Klopp opted against making another go at bringing Lemar to England.

The Liverpool boss felt the £90m price tag was excessive for a player who only enjoyed a breakthrough season at club level last year.

He bagged 14 goals as Monaco shocked PSG to win the league title in France and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Lemar has under-performed in 2017-18, with injury restricting him to just 23 appearances in all competitions.
