Samsung Galaxy Note 9 official introduction

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Note 9, which it describes as "the world's most advanced smartphone."

The smartphone-tablet hybrid – often referred to as a 'phablet' – features improved battery life, a better camera and increased storage space. A 512GB version, when combined with the external storage, can fold over a terabyte of data – which is more than most modern laptops.

Speaking on stage at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York, Samsung Mobile president Dong Jin Koh described the Galaxy Note 9 as "the world's most powerful device."

He added: "It raises the bar for speed, power and performance once again... a smartphone that will never slow you down or let you down... Note fans are Samsung’s most loyal; we know they want it all, to get the most out of work and play, and Galaxy Note 9 is the only phone that can keep up with their busy lives.”

Externally, the Note 9 looks similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 8. Inside, however, is where all the upgrades can be found. It includes a 4,000 mAh battery – the largest ever to feature on a Samsung smartphone – as well as a 10nm processor and up to 8GB of RAM.

Many of the details of Samsung's latest premium device had already been leaked online ahead of the event, including the Intelligent Camera that "adapts like the human eye" in order to take better pictures.

The smartphone's S Pen stylus also received an upgrade, with Bluetooth support now enabled to allow users to take pictures, present slides and act as a remote control when playing videos.

Some leaks of the Galaxy Note 9 have come directly from Samsung

Samsung describes the Galaxy Note 9 as delivering a "PC-like experience" and can be connected to a larger screen to act as a pocket-sized computer.

"Users can work on presentations, edit photos, and watch their favourite show all powered by their phone," Samsung said in a press release.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 9 are open from 5pm BST today (9 August) through Samsung's website, ahead of its official launch on 24 August.
