MARENGO, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a woman driving a go-kart on a rural northern Illinois road was killed when hit from behind by a car.
The McHenry County sheriff’s department says the crash happened Saturday night near the city of Marengo and that the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the collision. The county coroner identified the victim as 29-year-old Yajayra Huerta of Elgin.
Police say the 26-year-old driver of the car that hit the go-kart fled the crash site. That man was later found and arrested on charges of failing to reduce speed and leaving the scene of an accident. He wasn’t injured.
The coroner’s office says Huerta died from blunt trauma to the brain, spine, chest and abdomen.
