Jeju's Electric Vehicle Expo Approaches

The local and global EV industry is set for further success as the 2nd International Electric Vehicle Expo is held March 6-15

JEJU CITY, JEJU PROVINCE, KOREA, January 21, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The 2nd International Electric Vehicle Expo (IEVE 2015) will be held March 6-15 as leaders in the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry descend on the ICC Jeju over 10 days to talk shop and showcase the latest EVs, batteries and industry accessories.

Touted to be in attendance include Germany’s environment minister, the governor of Saxony and the mayors of Zermatt (Switzerland), an EV-only town, and Amsterdam (The Netherlands), where there are nearly 10,000 EVs on the roads. The organizing committee has also requested the attendance of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors.

Chairman Kim Dae-hwan of the International Electric Vehicle Expo Organizing Committee announced that IEVE 2015 is crucial in achieving Jeju’s carbon-free 2030 goals and creating an EV test bed on the island, adding that the expo will be a festival of participation, fun and value creation:

“[G]lobally reputable EV manufacturers and related institutions can exhibit their various products and services and ... it will become a stepping-stone to establish e-mobility and green communities [for] sustainable development.”

The first IEVE expo was held last year at ICC Jeju as industry leaders showcased charging equipment, batteries, materials and applied equipment over six days from March 15 to 21 at 14 sessions with 1,300 participants, 202 booths, 41 companies and 47,000 attendees. The event was covered by media globally including The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, The New York Times and The Detroit News.

The lottery draw for subsidized vehicles attracted great interest locally and 1,654 applications were received with 226 eventually distributed. At IEVE 2015, an additional 1,500 EVs will be offered during the expo itself, accounting for 50 percent of the 3,000 subsidized vehicles available nationwide over the year.

The growth is seen in participating companies, too, with renewable energy company BYD, vehicle producers Polaris, Detroit Electric, Tajima, Mitsubishi, Mahindra, BMW, Nissan, Renault Samsung Motors, Wuzhoulong and Kia Motors all confirming attendance. Domestic companies showcasing the latest R&D technologies nclude LG Electronics, Samsung SDI, Zyle Daewoo Bus, Hankuk Fiber Group and more.
