Lexus CT 200h Gets TRD Body Kit and Quad Exhaust in Japan

The CT 200h is being discontinued in the U.S. and is expected to be replaced by the UX crossover. However, Japan still thinks hatchbacks are cool and has treated the baby Lexus to the same aggressive TRD treatment as it does the Prius.

The 2017 facelift is mild, to say the least. So to make its customers forget that they are buying a car launched in 2011, Lexus Japan garnished it with TRD trim.

As you know, TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development. But this CT 200h is more boy races than anything else. Still, Japan is a great place to launch a tuned hybrid, as plenty of Prii get magnificent exhaust systems or carbon fiber spoilers.

In a way, the TRD package reminds us of the Civic Type R because of all the fake air intakes that have been added. But you have to remember that everything starts with the F Sport model, which is already too crazy for a 136 horsepower car.

At the front, you have some extra trim around the grille, tinted headlights, and a bolt-on chin spoiler. The 18-inch wheels might have the Lexus logo in the middle, but they look like they belong on a Subaru WRX.

New side skirts were also designed and painted black for contrast. Around the back, we have extra trim that takes the shape of fake vents, followed by a rear diffuser and a new muffler with four exhaust tips. These last two pieces cost a combined $1,500, so they're not exactly cheap.

The CT 200h also boasts "eyebrows" for the taillights. They are pretty unusual, but so is the car. Even the underbody has received attention and can be improved in the aero department or with a cross-member brace. We definitely liked the handling of the Lexus hatchback, so some of these mods are worth looking into if you're a long-term fan.
