The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport are recipients for the 2017 Consumer Guide® Automotive Best Buy Award in their respective categories. Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport received the award for the midsize crossover/SUV class, competing with 16 other models.

For 50 years, Consumer Guide Automotive has been one of the most respected, unbiased new- and used-car review companies in the U.S. The Best Buy Award trophy was presented by Tom Appel, publisher of Consumer Guide Automotive at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show.

The editors of Consumer Guide Automotive thoroughly evaluated more than 150 vehicles based on the latest automotive trends and vehicle attributes to select the very best model in every consumer segment.

These attributes include price, features, performance, accommodations, fuel economy, reliability and resale value.

The editors also test drove the vehicles through various driving conditions.

“Both Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport deliver a quiet, comfortable, refined cabin, and the all-around versatility that crossover buyers need,” said Tom Appel, publisher, Consumer Guide Automotive.

“This happens at prices that are just a little lower than you might expect.”

The 2018 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport provide all-around versatility that crossover buyer’s demand.

The vehicles continue to offer:

Front- or all-wheel drive

Seating for five to seven passengers.

2017 Santa Fe Sport is powered by a (n):

2.4-liter, four-cylinder direct-injected engine with 185 horsepower

Optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 240 horsepower.

The improvements range from enhanced exterior design to additional infotainment, convenience and safety technologies.

Recently in December, 2017 in one of the automotive industry’s most recognized and rigorous vehicle tests, the Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport have been awarded 2018 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ recognition.

In addition, Hyundai’s Ioniq Hybrid, Elantra, Elantra GT, Sonata and Tucson models were Top Safety Pick award winners.

“Hyundai was one of the leading brands for Top Safety Pick+ and Top Safety Pick awards in 2018,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “The safety of our customers and their loved ones is paramount in our thinking when we design new vehicles.”

To qualify for the Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must have good ratings in five IIHS crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints, an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.

For the Top Safety Pick+ designation, vehicles must also gain an acceptable or good rating in passenger-side small overlap front tests and improved headlight rating.

Features which helped these vehicles garner these recognitions included (but were not limited to) optional front-crash prevention, specific headlights and excellent performances in IIHS track tests at various speeds.
