A police officer is due to appear in court charged with drink driving.

Inspector Tina Notman, of Cleveland Police, was stopped in a Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class on Martinet Road, close to Thornaby Police Station, on February 15.

The 49-year-old - who the force says is not currently on frontline duties - was allegedly found to be more than double the drink drive limit, having 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Notman, from Thornaby, will appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on April 11 to face two charges, one of driving a vehicle while over the limit, and another of being in charge of a vehicle while over the limit.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A 49-year-old serving police officer, Inspector Tina Notman, from the Thornaby area, has been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit and being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

“A court date will be arranged for a later date.”

She clarified that Notman was not working at the time of the alleged offence, and added: “The officer is not currently on frontline duties.”
