Rare cars will be the stars of a spectacular showcase event at Alnwick Castle which will see MG owners rally around for a special celebration.

The Northumberland attraction will be hosting a Rare MG show in its grounds on Sunday, October 14 and on display will be some locally-owned sports cars treasures such as a 2009 MG TF 85 anniversary model which is one of only 50 made.

The show will be celebrating the 88-year anniversary of the MG Car Club and visitors can expect to see around 80 sparkling examples of the sporty star of the road.

Northumberland residents might catch sight of them en route too as they drive through the area, as part of the event, on a 55-mile road trip called Autumn Leaves Run which will set off from Linden Hall Hotel, near Morpeth, and take in some stunning local scenery ahead of the afternoon show.

The event is being organised by the Tyne Tees centre of the MG Car Club to mark the launch of the not-for-profit organisation on October 12, 1930.

The models on show will include a 1954 MG TF 1500 Tiffany owned by show organiser Andrew Kelly from Northumberland and a 1932 MG F Type Magna, owned by Bob Walker from Yorkshire.

The limited-edition 2009 MG TF 85 anniversary model belongs to Noel Lindford from County Durham who is chairman of the club's Tyne Tees branch which began in 1963 and he said: "We know this anniversary event is going to be very special."

Andrew Kelly added: "Within four weeks of announcing it, we were full to capacity - that shows how enthusiastic the MG Car Club members are.

"We’re all very excited about this occasion and hope as many people as possible come along to Alnwick Castle to see our magnificent cars and share our passion for MGs.

"Alnwick Castle will be a splendid backdrop to our display."

The owners will be on hand during the day to chat to visitors and fellow enthusiasts about the cars and about the club which has 50,000 members worldwide and is available to join to anyone with a MG, whether one dating from the early days - and its history began in 1924 - or a current model.

The club hosts six race meetings a year, including MG Live! at Silverstone, and the local branch arranges road trips; treasure hunts; driving tests and competitions.
