A car which had been left upside down on the roadside near to Coventry was removed by police this weekend - finally solving the mystery of the vehicle.

Motorists and passers-by on Coventry Road near to Coombe Abbey have been left baffled in recent days as the car was spotted upside beside the road.

The vehicle, believed to be a Citroen Xsara, was blocking a public bridleway and according to police was "causing a distraction to passing motorists".

Yesterday afternoon, Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit recovered the vehicle, removing it from the scene.

How did it get there?

Warwickshire Police revealed that the vehicle had found itself in the woods beside Coventry Road, between Coombe Abbey and Brinklow, following a road traffic collision.

After the incident, the vehicle was abandoned.

Police later confirmed that the vehicle is "not reported stolen".

Posting on the OPU Warwickshire Facebook page , Warwickshire Police said: "Earlier this afternoon we attended Coventry Road, Brinklow, near Coombe Abbey and recovered this vehicle which had been abandoned on its roof in the woods following a road traffic collision.

"The vehicle had been blocking a public Bridleway and causing a distraction to passing motorists.

"Thank you to BV Commercials Rugby our approved recovery agent who made light work of lifting this one."
