Twin-Turbo Lamborghini Jalpa Is a Drag Racing Freak, Has LS1 Engine

Remember all the social media posts that harness the difference between a vehicle that's actually new and one that's new to its owner? Well, the remastered Lamborghini Jalpa we have here has been to the gym a few years ago, but the thing is new to me. And since I'm pretty sure plenty of you are in the same situation, I've decided to bring the Raging Bull under the spotlights.
Back in the early 80s, Sant'Agata Bolognese introduced the Jalpa as a more affordable model, which meant its Italian 3.5-liter V8 delivered a not-so-amazing 250 ponies, which was only normal for the era and the purpose of the car.

This, of course, is an argument towards not judging the owner of the mid-engined machine for having ditched the factory mill in favor of an LS1, one that works with a 383ci stroker kit. Then again, since Lamborghini only brought 450 Jalpas to the world, this aficioando is getting his fair share of the said treatment.

At first, the GM V8 was fitted with a supercharger, wit this resulting in sweet 9s quarter-mile times. For the sake of comparing, the Huracan and the Aventador are 10-second cars.

However, the owner noticed that the said setup was putting a lot of stress on the custom built transaxle, which uses Toyota parts.

As such, the supercharger has made for for a pair of turbos and while I'm not sure how the non-linear power delivery brought by this power adder helps, it seems to work just fine for the gear head.

Regardless of the reason for which the said transition was made, the current setup of the engine sees this delivering 690 hp at the rear wheels (that's more than 800 hp at the crank). The turbos, which were borrowed from a Ford XR6 work at 14.5 psi.

Now, as the said Blue Oval model hints, this is an Aussie build and you can see it at work at the Calder Park Street Drags event, the 2016 edition, in the video below.
