“A new choice for SUV customers who prefer Edge ST’s performance-inspired interior and exterior but don’t need its full power and performance.” This is how Ford describes the new upgrade package for its crossover.
On its own, the sporty ST version of the Edge (the first Blue Oval SUV to be gifted with the designation) is proving to be extremely popular. So popular, in fact, that it outsold its Edge Sport predecessor by nearly doubling the numbers. Off all Edge SUVs of the current generation sold, 13 percent have been STs, says the carmaker.
So why not give a taste of the ST to soccer moms, for instance, without slapping the 335 horsepower of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost under the hood?
Enter the Edge ST-Line, a series of visual and tech upgrades designed to make it look like the crossover is high-performance, without it being so. You get things like a distinct grille, body-colored bumpers, and LED lighting, among other things, but only a fraction of the power: 250 hp, this time generated by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Priced about $5,000 below the real Edge ST (that’s a starting price of $38,100 for the ST-Line), the package also brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charging pad, and an extensive list of safety features working together under the Co-Pilot360 suite: Evasive Steering Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane-Centering, and more.
“Edge ST continues to break new ground with terrific styling, powerful performance and smart technology,” said in a statement Craig Patterson, Ford SUV marketing manager. “But some customers want style and value and don’t need all of the horsepower. For them, Edge ST-Line hits the bull’s-eye – again.”
The Ford Edge ST-Line is already available for order. Full details on the package can be found in the press release section below.
