2022 BMW X7 Facelift Spied With New Headlight Design

As a big, luxurious 3-row SUV, the BMW X7 was both one of the most anticipated and hated German cars in a long time. However, it's doing well, and work has already begun on the mid-life facelift.

Even though the X7 can technically only be compared to the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, there's a lot of competition coming from American brands. It's even rumored that Lexus will have a 3-row crossover and a flagship SUV.

These are the first-ever spyshots of the X7's facelift. Though little is known at this moment, the biggest BMW SUV should have its updates ready by 2022. Our spy photographers have captured this prototype while in transit in Munich.

The changes to the controversial front end are somewhat visible. The kidney grille is about the same size and shape, but everything else has changed. New headlights sit much lower in the bumper, no longer coming in contact with the hood. Could BMW be working on a twin-level projector setup, like Kia or Nissan?

Around the back, there's barely anything different, even though BMW camouflaged much of the bodywork. So, either this is just an early test mule, or they simply don't want to spend money on that area.

It's rumored that the whole range of BMW SUVs, from the X1 to the X7, will go through a massive redesign. However, we don't think all of them will have this headlight shape. Instead, the updated X7 might be matched only to the 7 Series or the i7 fully electric flagship.

The 2022 BMW X7 will have a different engine range compared to the one the SUV came out with. The M50d, which is a quad-turbo diesel, will be dropped from the lineup soon. Its place might be taken by the M45e plug-in hybrid. Also, the flagship X7 M60i looks unlikely to happen due to the low demand for super-powerful V12s.
