15-year-old driver flees officer on I-94, crashes near Osakis

Two 15-year-old girls from Iowa were in the car. The passenger was injured, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A 15-year-old driver fled from a traffic stop and crashed near Osakis, injuring a passenger late Saturday, Oct. 3, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The passenger, also 15, was identified as Blessing Philimena Brooks of Muscatine, Iowa. The driver was not named in the report and was only identified as a female.

The crash happened when a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix was westbound on Interstate 94 near West Union when it fled from a traffic stop. The Grand Prix took the exit to Highway 27 at Osakis, ran a stop sign, and then crashed.

The passenger was taken to Alomere Health in Alexandria for injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver was not injured, according to the report. Both teens were wearing a seat belt and the air bag on the Grand Prix did deploy.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the Grand Prix had been reported stolen, but did not say where or when the theft may have occurred.

The crash was reported at 11:45 p.m.

Osakis Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and North Ambulance also responded.
