A new police team set up specifically for a troubled Sheffield suburb have introduced themselves in style - by snatching a flashy performance car from an uninsured teenage show-off.

The so called 'Jeremy Kyle estate' around Page Hall has caused policing problems throughout the coronavirus pandemic because of problems with its mixed population and deprivation.

That has seen a catalogue of incidents where Covid-19 restrictions have been blatantly ignored and other anti-social behaviour problems which have at times erupted into street brawls.

South Yorkshire Police have tried various tactics over the summer but have now set up a new team of neighbourhood officers to work intensively in the neighbourhood, a system which has proved effective in other areas of the county.

Those officers are now in place and have made their presence felt immediately by impounding an expensive motor being mis-used.

They explained on social media: "The new Page Hall Team have arrived with a bang.... uninsured and antisocial motorists be warned!

"This flashy Audi RS6 was being shown off on Page Hall Road by a 19 year old driver with his mates… unfortunately for him, he was driving on a provisional licence and with no insurance."

Two of the area's new constables seized the car, which had been reported as being used for anti-social driving in the area over the previous week.
