Girl, seven, suffers multiple skull fractures in three-car crash before police arrest 17-year-old boy and girl 'who fled the scene'

A seven-year-old girl has been left seriously injured after a three-car collision on New Year's Day.

The youngster, who was travelling in a Toyota Yaris, is seriously ill at Birmingham Children's hospital with multiple skull fractures and facial injuries.

Two 17-year-olds have now been arrested following the crash after fleeing the scene.

The two teenagers were in a silver Renault Scenic but failed to stop and instead ran off abandoning their car only minutes later on Milner Road, Selly Park, Birmingham.

The three-car collision took place on Pershore Road, at the junction with Bewdley Road, Birmingham last night at 9.15pm.

The fleeing teens - a male aged 17, from Smethwick, Birmingham, and female from Selly Oak - were both arrested following a foot chase.

Both teenagers remain in custody on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: 'We're appealing for witnesses who've not yet spoken to us to get in touch.

'In particular, if you saw the collision, the silver Renault Scenic driving off, or people running from the car in Milner Road then please contact us.

'A young girl has been left with very serious injuries and whilst the arrests are a significant development and step forward, we still need your help to piece the facts together.'
