'Exactly what we wanted': Nodaway Valley makes history at girls basketball semifinals
INTRODUCES US TO A TEAM THAT DID A COMMUNITY PROUD. >> NOT ONLY HAD THE TEAM NOT BEEN TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN FOREVER -- >> IT MAKES ME CRY. >> THEY EARNED EVERY REASON TO HOLD THEIR HEADS HIGH. >> OUR WHOLE GOAL WAS JUST TO MAKE IT TO STATE, AND WE DID. >> THE TEAM DID SO MUCH MORE. THEY PUT A COMMUNITY, THAT SOLD 800 T-SHIRTS IN PREPARATION FOR THE STATE TOURNAMENT, ON THEIR BACKS AND IN TURN THIS COMMUNITY HAS THEIR BACKS. >> EVERYBODY IN THIS COMMUNITY IS BEYOND EXCITED AND PROUD OF THIS TEAM AND THEIR COACHES. WE ARE MAKING HISTORY. WE ALREADY MADE HISTORY. >> THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF WINNING THE STATE 2A BACKETBALL TOURNAMENT STALLED IN THIS SEMI FINAL LIKE THEIR LAST EFFORT TO TIE THE GAME OR PULL OUT THE VICTORY. BUT IT IS ANOTHER STEP FOR THIS TEAM THAT LAST YEAR WAS ONE VICTORY AWAY FROM MAKING THE STATE TOURNAMENT. >> IT’S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. IT’S THE FIRST TIME IN NODAWAY VALLEY’S HISTORY THAT OUR GIRLS HAVE MADE THE STATE TOURNAMENT NOT TO MENTION HAVE AN UNDEFEATED SEASON UP TO THIS POINT. >> I AM SUPER PROUD OF WHAT THIS TEAM HAS ACCOMPLISHED AND I AM EXCITED TO KEEP WORKING THIS NEXT SUMMER TO GET BACK HERE NEXT YEAR. >> AND SO IS A COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORTS THEM EVERY BOUNCE AND BASKET ALONG THE W

An undefeated season — the school's first girls state basketball appearance — ends in a two-point loss in the 2A semifinals.The Nodaway Valley girls basketball team will not claim the state championship this year.They have won their community."It makes me cry," said Jalene Sanden-Sivadge, a parent of a player. They leave with a win and a loss but earned every reason to hold their heads high. "This is exactly what we wanted from the beginning of the season," said Lindsey Davis, a player. "Our goal was to make it to state and we did."The team did so much more. They put a community, that sold 800 t-shirts in preparation for the state tournaments, on their backs and in turn this community has their backs. "Everybody in this community is beyond excited and proud of this team and their coaches. We made history. We are making history," Sanden-Sivadge said. The ultimate goal of winning the state 2A basketball tournament stalled in the semifinals like their last effort to tie the game or pull out the victory. But it is another step for this team that last year was only one victory away from making the state tournament. "It's absolutely amazing. It's the first time in Nodaway Valley's history that our girls have made the state tournament not to mention have an undefeated season up[ to this point," said Gerry Miller, the activities director. "I am super proud of what this team has accomplished and I am excited to keep working this next summer to get back here next year," said Maddox Devault, a player.
