Man accused of manslaughter, DUI in crash that killed Mustang teacher, authorities say
A man is facing charges of first-degree manslaughter and DUI in connection with a crash that killed a beloved Mustang school teacher, according to Union City police.
A two-vehicle crash was reported at about 8 p.m. on April 29 near State Highway 152 and Banner Road in Union City. Police said a southbound vehicle driven by 37-year-old Jimmy D. Grissam of Pocasset, had run the stop sign at SH 152 and struck the westbound vehicle driven by 30-year-old Kasey Working, of Union City.
Working was pronounced at the scene, police said. Grissam was taken to OU Medical Center by Pafford EMS.
Officer said they obtained a search warrant for the Powertrain Control Module of Grissam’s vehicle. The computer analysis of the PCM indicated the speed of the vehicle for the 400 seconds of the vehicle prior to impact. It showed that there was not a significant slowing of the vehicle or a stop, according to police.
“This scientific evidence is critical in helping to understand the events leading up to the collision,” police officials said in a news release.
Grissam recovered from his injuries and was released from the hospital Tuesday. Union City officers arrested him on a warrant for multiple charges, including first-degree manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Grissam was taken via medical wheelchair van to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on these charges.
Officials with Mustang Public Schools sent out a statement to the community following Working’s death.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I write to let you know that one of our teachers at Centennial, Kasey Working passed away in a car accident yesterday. Kasey also previously worked at Lakehoma and Prairie View elementaries. This is a difficult time for our school family, and we have additional counselors present at the schools to help any students or staff who may need it.”
