Formula 1 has now comfortably settled down into the V6 era of engines. Even though the current F1 engine produces a whopping 1000Bhp, it still catches a lot of flak for displacing the fan-favorite V12 and V8 engines of old. Now, don’t get us wrong, the V6s F1 teams use now have their own set of perks, shown brilliantly by the Honda [now Red Bull Powertrains] variant. However, the screaming V12s and the crunchy V8s are a completely different breed. And this is something the residents of Imola learned late last year, courtesy of Max Verstappen.

You’d be well within your rights to assume that a day of Grand Prix cars running on a track would be bellowing, to say the least. That being said, the track authorities at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari got caught up in a municipal scuffle, and it wasn’t a pack of mellow V6s, it was just one screeching V8 beast!

According to Express UK, “The team [Red Bull] filmed around the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari last October with Verstappen in the famous RB9, which Sebastian Vettel drove to his fourth and final world title win back in 2013.” With Max Verstappen behind the RB9’s wheels, the authorities at Imola quickly found themselves at the wrong side of the law.

“Imola circuit officials were fined after Max Verstappen’s filming day with Red Bull led to noise complaints. The Italian track’s operators were forced to stump up €500 [$540] after the F1 champion activated local noise pollution detectors nearby in one of Red Bull’s most iconic cars.”

As it turns out, Verstappen isn’t averse to coughing up money as reprimands. Back in 2021, the Dutch lion was embroiled in a grudge match with Lewis Hamilton all season long. And he found himself on the wrong side of the law once again, and this time for a very peculiar reason.

The 2021 season had so many twists and turns that it was not short of a blockbuster Hollywood script. However, as the season progressed towards that fateful finale, Verstappen crossed a line in the judicial minds of the FIA. And he had to pay up.
