Buying a car is not an easy task. It is a decision based on the economy, location and needs of the buyer, the utility that is going to be given, its safety, how many people are planned to be transported and that the design is attractive to us.
With a wide market of models and brands in the country, this decision can be more and more complicated… Or not. Despite the fact that it currently seems that in Mexico it is impossible to acquire a new car for less than 200,000 pesos, there is a 20,000 vehicle offered online.

Its about Chang Li S1 Pro, an electric car of Chinese origin that also arrives at your home by parcel. The unit can be purchased from the Alibaba online store and although customs taxes and shipping fees are not counted, the vehicle is well below the price of all others.
According to the specifications of the online portal, the Chinese electric unit is called as a ‘personal urban mobility vehicle’. This means that it focuses solely on transporting the driver within the city over not very long distances.because exceeding them would be dangerous.
The Chang Li S1 Pro has a range of 100 kilometers and around 67 horsepower, which gives it a top speed of 30 km/h. In this sense, due to its size and capacity, it could be compared to a motorcycle, but with the comfort of having a cover.
The bad news: The Chang Li S1 Pro may not circulate in Mexico
Although it seems an excellent option to get an economic car, unfortunately it has some aspects that make it impossible to use it on the streets of Mexico. To give an example, its electric motor is the same used in swimming pools.
As a second argument, there is the purchase of it. Being through a online portal, security, monitoring, or direct support with any complication that arises during and after purchasing the car is not guaranteed.
Finally, NOM-194-SE-2021 published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, establishes some points so that cars can circulate in Mexico. And sadly, the Chinese unit is far from meeting them. These are:
- 3-point seat belts
- Seat belt reminder
- headers
- defogging system
- tempered glass
- Front and side impact occupant protection
- ABS brakes
- Stability control
- Tire Pressure Monitoring
- Anchors for baby seats
- Electrical system protection
