Incyte named R&D president
Incyte announced the creation of a new leadership role, appointing Pablo J. Cagnoni, M.D. President and Head of Research & Development (R&D), effective June 5. In this role and as a member of the Executive Team, Cagnoni will lead Incyte’s R&D efforts across its portfolio of programs in Oncology, Hematology, and Inflammation and Autoimmunity, including Dermatology.
“This newly created role integrates chemistry, biology and development with the goal of maximizing the impact of our portfolio and accelerating our innovative pipeline,” said Hervé Hoppenot, Chief Executive Officer, Incyte. “Based on Pablo’s deep industry experience in all stages of drug development across different therapeutic modalities, as well as his proven track record of leading development organizations, he will play a critical role in helping us deliver on our commitment to patients, clinicians, our employees and shareholders.”
As an oncologist and pharmaceutical executive, Cagnoni has played a key role in developing, approving, and/or commercializing more than 20 medicines. He previously served as CEO of three different bio-science companies.
Golder named head of school at Newark Charter
Newark Charter School appointed veteran Delaware education leader Sam Golder as its new Head of School. Golder will begin his tenure in late June 2023. Golder was hired after a months-long, nationwide search.
Golder serves as the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning at the Red Clay Consolidated School District, Wilmington. Throughout his 25-year career in education, Golder has also served a principal, vice principal, teacher, and coach for schools across the Mid-Atlantic.
Golder received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland and his Master of Education from Loyola College.
Chemours executive changes
Chemours announced the resignation of Alisha Bellezza, president, Thermal & Specialized Solutions (TSS), effective May 31. Chemours will run a comprehensive search for Bellezza’s replacement.
On June 1, Joseph (Joe) Martinko, senior business director, Americas for TSS, stepped in as interim leader. Martinko has over 30 years of experience in the chemical industry, more than 20 years of which were with Chemours TSS and Fluoroproducts businesses.
“Joe’s deep knowledge of our thermal management products portfolio, market, and customers is truly unmatched,” said Mark Newman, CEO at Chemours. “Combine that with his strong commercial experience and proven track record and I have every confidence he and the TSS team will continue building upon the strong first quarter results, ensuring clarity, consistency, and continued growth throughout this transition period.”

YMCA names CFO
The YMCA of Delaware welcomed Peter DeGregorio as Chief Financial Officer. Peter brings 14 years of experience in financial management and business administration.
Most recently, Peter served as Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and Risk Management at the Boston YMCA. He oversaw the Boston Y’s financial planning and analysis, childcare business operations, and enterprise risk management. ‘
A graduate of Tufts University, Peter is a board member of the United ARC and a “Big” with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. A former collegiate soccer player, Peter just ran the Boston Marathon on behalf of the Boston Y, raising funds for its Teen Programs.
Two join the board of Local Journalism Initiative
Communications expert and former TV news anchor Jeremy Tucker and wealth manager Chuck Posnecker has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI).
Tucker is currently manager of strategic communications and engagement at Delaware Electric Cooperative, which serves 115,000 consumers in central and southern Delaware. Prior to joining Delaware Electric Cooperative in 2011, he was an anchor and political reporter for WBOC-TV (CBS and Fox) in Dover. He also previously worked for the Delaware General Assembly and CBS News.
Posnecker is a senior wealth advisor at Bryn Mawr Capital Management, a subsidiary of WSFS Bank, where he counsels high-net-worth families and nonprofits on portfolio management and financial planning.
Born in Las Vegas and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he and his wife moved to the Delaware region in 2012. He is also a Leadership Delaware Class of 2020 Fellow
Gavin/Solmonese promotions
Gavin/Solmonese announced that longtime executives Stanley W. Mastil, and Jeremy VanEtten have been promoted to new roles. Mastil, former senior director, will now fulfill the responsibilities of Managing Director. VanEtten has been promoted from Director to Senior Director.
For over a decade at Gavin/Solmonese, Mastil has served as a chief restructuring officer in bankruptcy and out-of-court matters and has testified multiple times in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the District of Delaware, New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Mastil is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and the AICPA.
VanEtten was originally hired as a Senior Consultant, assisting in the preparation of tax filings and providing bankruptcy consulting services to liquidating trusts. During trust administration matters, he interacted with
creditors on claims and distributions oversaw the many regulatory aspects of trust administration and addressed complex creditor problems.
VanEtten has also provided consulting services to debtors, senior lenders, indenture trustees, and unsecured creditors both in Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcies, as well as out-of-court matters. He has provided modeling, analysis and projections as a financial advisor to bankruptcy committees and has accrued a broad range of experience by serving industries such as technology, automotive, entertainment, gaming, construction, large retail, and wholesale.
Before joining Gavin/Solmonese, VanEtten was a director at Comcast Spectacor, where he helped the Philadelphia Soul emerge from bankruptcy and make a successful AFL return by overseeing the sales and marketing for the restart of the franchise. VanEtten graduated with a BS in Business Administration from Cairn University School of Business and has an MBA from Temple University Fox School of Business.

Psychiatrist joins Beebe
Beebe Healthcare announced the appointment of David Yunis, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist, to Beebe Medical Group. Yunis practices at Beebe Behavioral Health in Lewes and provides outpatient care for adults with a wide range of mental health concerns.
Before joining Beebe, Yunis served as a staff psychiatrist at Horizon House’s Assertive Community Treatment Team in Georgetown. Earlier in his career, he worked as a staff psychiatrist at the Delaware Department of Correction.
Yunis is a graduate of Rosalind Franklin University’s Chicago Medical School and completed a residency in psychiatry at Boston University. He also holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst..
Mahmood joins Bayhealth practice
Syed Nazeer Mahmood, MD, is the first of several new clinicians to join Bayhealth’s newest medical practice— Bayhealth Pulmonology & Critical Care.
Mahmood has expertise in advanced lung diseases and treats a wide range of pulmonary conditions, such as asthma, COPD and pulmonary fibrosis.
The practice is part of Bayhealth Medical Group.
“After earning a medical degree from Kasturba Medical College in Karnataka, India, Dr. Mahmood did an internal medicine residency with MedStar Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He also completed fellowship training in pulmonology and critical care medicine and served as chief fellow there.
Neurosurgeon joins Bayhealth
Neurosurgeon Aaron Sigler, DO, who was born and raised in Sussex County, has returned to his home state, joining the Bayhealth Neurosurgery practice. Sigler offers neurosurgical care for disorders involving the brain and spinal cord, and he has special expertise in minimally invasive treatment of brain and skull base tumors.
Prior to joining Bayhealth, Dr. Sigler spent seven years as a neurosurgeon with Tulane University Medical Group and an assistant professor at Tulane School of Medicine’s Center for Clinical Neurosciences in New Orleans.
After he graduated from Seaford High School and University of Delaware, Sigler earned a master’s in biomedical sciences followed by his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences. Sigler then went on to the Cleveland Clinic where he completed an advanced endoscopic and open skull base tumor fellowship program. He specializes in advanced, minimally invasive procedures.
