Prince Albert of Monaco was spotted dining in a Cheshire village this weekend. The Prince was pictured at San Carlo in Alderley Edge - the village in Cheshire's Golden Triangle where footballers, soap stars and millionaires reside.

The Prince made a surprise visit to the affluent village on Friday, enjoying lunch at the celebrity-favourite Italian restaurant. The Royal was seen in a smart suit, smiling alongside San Carlo's managers at the London Road restaurant, in a photo shared on social media.

San Carlo, which underwent a £3m transformation last year, has since welcomed many famous locals, including ex-Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen.

The reason for the Prince's visit to the Cheshire area this week remains unknown. He is known to be a football enthusiast and has previously surprised Manchester City fans by attending some of their games, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, Manchester City were not playing at home this weekend; they instead faced Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley.

Prince Albert is also friends with Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United's new minority shareholder and a tax resident of Monaco. However, United were also at Wembley on Sunday for the other semi-final against Coventry City, with their next fixture at Old Trafford scheduled for Wednesday, April 24.

The Prince, who is the son of Prince Rainier III and Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, has been reigning over the Principality of Monaco since 2005.
