TOPEKA (KSNT) – KSNT 27 News is learning more about the cause of a deadly crash that killed a Topeka teacher.

On Thursday, April 11, a multi-vehicle crash happened at 53rd and Indian Hills Road. In a crash report obtained by 27 News, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office said 52-year-old Todd W. Armstrong, of Auburn, crossed the center line, killing 24-year-old Ashleigh Boyd, of Topeka.

Armstrong told officers a blown tire or a mechanical issue with his truck caused the wreck. Upon investigation, detectives say there were no signs he tried to stop the truck.

Boyd was driving with her Eleanor Manzano-Aguilar, 1, who survived the crash. Deputies said she was properly strapped into her child safety seat. A funeral for Boyd took place in Topeka this weekend. She was a teacher at Lowman Hill Elementary School.

KSNT 27 News had recently interviewed Boyd ahead of the Super Bowl. Her husband, Adam Manzano, was part of the broadcast for Telemundo KC.
