NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — A State Highway Patrol trooper was injured Tuesday evening when a man suffering a medical problem crashed his SUV into a patrol car on side of the Ohio Turnpike.

Alfonso Sierra, a trooper with the patrol’s Milan Post, was taken to the University Hospital Elyria Medical Center following the crash near the Ohio 10 interchange, according to a news release. His injuries were not serious.

The SUV driver, a 65-year-old North Olmsted resident, also was taken to the hospital in Elyria. The patrol did not release information on his condition.

The patrol says the North Olmsted man was driving a Honda HR-V west on the turnpike at about 5:14 p.m. when it went of the right side of the road and hit the Dodge Charger patrol vehicle, which was on the shoulder with its emergency lights activated.

The patrol is investigating the crash.
