The Delaware Contemporary turns to a familiar scene for most people as a frame for a new exhibition.
The exhibit, titled “The Dinner Table,” comprises art from an array of media - painting, sculpture, installations, and more.
Shefon Taylor is the museum’s communications director.
“I think we are just in such a unique space culturally, and in a landscape that's really worth talking about these ideas of traditionalism, the dinner table being one of them," she said. "And how are we all not only looking at our own lives, but looking at the lives and experiences of those around us.”
Taylor said the collection is curated to spark ideas and start conversations.
“These exhibitions really explore how an everyday ritual of coming to a dinner table can evoke nostalgia, can spark dialogue and really serve as a lens for how we examine the dynamics of gathering, even separation, conversation," she said.
The show consists of multiple themed exhibitions comprising more than 30 works, all by living, working artists. Taylor notes that many of the works are also for sale, and that’s an important part of the Delaware Contemporary’s mission.
“And that is really what we also want to do is to not only display the work, but support artists to be able to be working artists," Taylor said.
“The Dinner Table” is on display at the Delaware Contemporary through May 25th. More information is at decontemporary.org.
