Lincoln Police looking for wallet thief targeting elderly women in grocery stores

Lincoln Police are investigating a string of thefts at area grocery stores and believe one man is tied to all of them.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police are investigating a string of thefts at area grocery stores and believe one man is tied to all of them.

On Feb. 28, police say the suspect went to the Super Saver near 56th and Nebraska Parkway and took a woman’s wallet out of her purse when she wasn’t looking.

LPD said the suspect has been connected to seven other theft cases in the Lincoln area dating back to July 2024. The common theme investigators are seeing is wallets and purses stolen from elderly women in grocery stores. Then, the victims’ credit cards are used to buy gift cards, commonly at the Lululemon store, according to police.

LPD said the total loss is over $1,600 and continues to increase.

In a second case, Lincoln Police are looking for a woman involved in a hit and run.

It happened on March 5 around 10:30 p.m. at the Petro Mart near 23rd and R streets. Police said the driver was backing out of a parking spot when she hit the driver’s side of a parked vehicle and drove off.

LPD believes the suspect’s car is a 2009-2015 Hyundai Sonata with some damage to the rear passenger side. The driver is described as a 30 to 40 year old white female with long, dark hair. Police said she was with a tall, bald, black male.
