CHURCH NOTES

All Saints Orthodox Church: 211 Willow Ave., Olyphant, offers a frozen pierogi sale from 9 to 11 a.m. every Friday and 10:30 a.m. to noon every Sunday in the basement of the church.

Christ Episcopal Church: 700 Delaware St., Forest City, will conduct its annual Lenten pizza, soup, Welsh cookies and cabbage noodles sale from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays through April 18. Sale includes take-and-bake 12 slices of red pizza for $14; pagash (potato, cheese) for $16; assorted homemade soups for $5; cabbage and noodles for $6; and Welsh cookies for $7 per dozen. Advance ordering for pizza is recommended by calling the church at 570-785-3425 and leaving a message. Proceeds benefit the church’s community programs.

Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church: 313 First Ave., Jessup, has been designated as a Pilgrimage Church in honor of the Jubilee Year of Hope. The church will be hosting many events in the upcoming year, beginning with Vespers on Sunday evenings during Lent at 3 p.m. at the church. The public is invited.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church: hosts a food giveaway from 1 to 2 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Giveaways are sponsored by Friends of the Poor and take place in the attached Holy Family Hall, 1101 Willow St., Peckville.

SS. Cyril & Methodius Church: will hold a food fundraiser throughout Lent. The church is hosting Lou’s Concessions Food Truck from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays at the parish hall parking lot, 207 River St., Olyphant. Menu includes potato pancakes, noodles and cabbage (halushki), pierogi, fries, chicken, soups and deep-fried Oreos. Daily features will be available.

SS. Cyril & Methodius Church flower fundraiser: Featuring flowers by Jerry’s for All Seasons. For Easter, hyacinths, tulips and daffodils will be available for sale for $10 per 6-inch pot and lilies for $12 per 6-inch pot. Pickup is April 16 at 3 p.m. at the church, 135 River St., Olyphant. For Mother’s Day, 10-inch hanging baskets in a variety of colors and blooms will be sold for $20. St. Mary’s Visitation Church: 625 Dundaff St., Dickson City, holds a weekly Monday night bingo. Early bird starts at 6:30 p.m. and regular games at 6:45 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. Weekly jackpot is $1,000. The kitchen serves food and beverages beginning at 5:30 p.m. Info: call 570-489-2091.

St. Mary’s Orthodox Greek Catholic Church: 522 Main St., Dickson City, will hold a takeout-only Lenten potato pancake and Manhattan clam chowder sale April 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Potato pancakes, $2 each; clam chowder, $8 a quart. Trinity Episcopal Church: 58 River St., Carbondale, is holding a homemade Lenten lunch sale on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Lent. Sale includes potato pancakes, $5 for three; Manhattan clam chowder, $9 for a large and $5 for a small; cabbage and noodles, $4; potato lasagna, $5; pagash, $5, and pizza, $2. ONGOING PROGRAMS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mayfield Lions Club: is continuing its sale of brooms, available at the Mayfield Municipal Building, 739 Penn Ave., Mayfield. The club also collects used eyeglasses at the same location.

Pioneer City Market: is a year-round farmers market in downtown Carbondale. The market is open every Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. (winter hours) at 58 River St. (Trinity Episcopal Church). Third Thursdays in the Queen City: Olyphant Borough gears up with retail stores, restaurants and outdoor vendors on Lackawanna Avenue to offer something for everyone every third Thursday of the the month. Walk and shop the stores from the bridge to the Queen City train station. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Carbondale Farmers Market: is open every Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. (winter hours) at UNC’s Fallbrook Senior Community Center, 185 Fallbrook St., Carbondale. UNC Farmers Markets accepts SNAP/EBT and all benefit holders can receive an extra $2 for every $4 spent while shopping. EASTER EGG HUNTS

Citizens for a Healthy Jessup: April 5, 1 p.m., location has changed to Memorial Field (enter Hill Street side), Hill Street, Jessup. For ages 10 and under. Children must have a guardian present. Actors Circle presents “Lysistrata”: March 13-16 and 21-23, Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Scranton. Preview will be held Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m., and all tickets will cost $10. Renowned British tuba player Will Druiett will perform a solo tuba and piano recital March 29 at 7 p.m. The Seraph Brass will perform April 5 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.  Concerts are free and open to the public.
