1,000 km with my Creta N-Line MT: 6 quick observations

In city usage , I am getting between 12-13 kmpl. I have used Jio-BP and HP so far. In highways the maximum I have been able to achieve is 17.5 kmpl.

1000 km update

Its not even been a month , but somehow I have managed to rack up 1000 kms on my Creta NLine N8 MT. These 1000 kms also made me compare my Creta to my old Ford Aspire in every km of the way. Here are the random observations so far:

1. Speed and Handling :In my Aspire, I could do 100 kmph in less than 10 secs. The Creta is largely similar , I could do the same speed in the same stretches as before. It might be even a little faster than the Ford, but just a little and only on a straight track. In a curvy track , the Ford wins hand down. The Ford asks you to step on it bit more particularly on the curves and test its limits. Creta having a higher c.g. and being heavier obviously says "its enough" after sometime. But its quite satisfactory and I can live with a little more safer drive.

2. Fuel economy : In city usage , I am getting between 12-13 kmpl. I have used Jio-BP and HP so far. In highways the maximum I have been able to achieve is 17.5 kmpl. More than the fuel consumption while driving, it is drastically affected on idling in traffic.

3. Auto Start Stop :Obviously ,to address this high fuel consumption while idling, Hyundai came up with this auto start stop. It is smooth in action. Problem is , whenever during normal driving in bumper to bumper traffic or while slowing down while crossing a bump, if the rpm becomes low , the system automatically tries to shut down the engine, while I am trying to maintain the car at low speed. This results in a tug of war between the engine and the driver and the car shudders. And this system is on by default and has to be shut down everytime I switch on the car. This has been a major irritant.

4. LED Headlamps: While the low beam is quite adequate, the high beam is less than satisfactory. Its like switching on a led tube-light/batten with diffuse lighting when I want is a powerful focused torch. Haven't found any solution for this without risking voiding the warranty.

5. Driving seat comfort: The seats are sofa like with excellent thigh support , but by Ford has better support in the lumbar area. Tried a few cushions , but that eats into the seating area and makes it more uncomfortable. Searching for a solution for long drives.

6. Auto-Hold: This has really been a quite useful. While stopping just pressing the brake puts the car on autohold without having to use the parking brake. And a press of the accelerator switches it off.

Other Hits :
1. Dont know how they measure the ground clearance , but on the Creta the measured ground clearance from the bottom of the front bumper is 220 mm and from the side is 300 mm. Its more than enough. Normal Creta with 17 inchers are supposed to have 190 mm but no official info on the NLine with 18 inch tyres anywhere. Low gc was a major issue with my Ford.

2. Ride comfort : The NLine with stiffer suspension and low cross section tyres have a less cushy ride than normal Creta , but its still better than my Aspire sports which had a quite stiffer one.

Misses :
1. Lack of dedicated trip meter. It has one but if I reset that then the overall counts disappear. Ford had two.
2. Cluster doesn't show average speed.
3. Unlighted window, lock and unlock buttons . Only the driver side window button is backlighted.

Finally Looks: I like the Creta's looks quite a lot , particularly from the rear. But my Ford was so handsome. The Creta is a Black Bear but the Ford was a stallion.
