You can't think about it; you just have to do it, and do it you will at the Redrok Rally.
The Redrok people did it last year and now they are set to do it again. This year’s jamboree dates are set for June 12-14, and registration is open now. This is your chance to have an experienced guide show you how to navigate the amazing slick rock of Moab. There will even be special Ladies’ Rides this year.
Fees for this year’s rally are $145 and include three days of guided rides, daily raffles, a Redrok Rally T-shirt and all fees required by Moab City and the BLM. Breakfast is available each of the rally days for $15 per person. Manage as many cards as you can at the bingo tables that will open at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday. If you have a good arm, you can enter the cornhole tournament and try your luck.
The Redrok Rally has attracted some major vendors who will be on hand all three days of the event. These include Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Warn and SuperATV, to name a few. This is your chance to talk directly to company representatives about their products.
Rally headquarters are at the Old Spanish Trail Arena where events will take place. Riders will meet their guides at the trailheads instead of caravanning from headquarters. Information on each trail, recommended requirements for your machine and instructions on where to meet the guides are found at https://www.redrokrally.com. This is also the site for registration.
Each of the trails offered is rated on a 10-point system. The lowest rating is a four and the highest is a nine. Now, let’s look at some trails featured at the rally:

It is amazing to experience the grip tires have on slick rock.
Hell’s Revenge – Rating 6 – 30-inch tire minimum
This one is well known in the OHV community. I have been on this trail and it is where I got a real taste of slick rock. My grandson, Mark, took me to the base of this sandstone wall. I was looking for a way around it, but Mark pointed straight up. I gulped and followed him. I felt like I was going vertical, my cellphone fell out of a pocket in the dashboard. I thought it was gone. I didn’t dare stop on that incline. Fortunately, it fell inside my Kawasaki. What an amazing trail. I didn’t take some of the worst parts.
Pritchot Canyon – Rating 9 – 35-inch tire minimum, spare tire, axles and winch
This trail is eight miles long and it will take eight hours to complete. Do the math — that is 1 mph. Maximized vehicle ground clearance is required and roll over and vehicle damage is likely. Needless to say, riders will see little of the scenery on this trail. There ought to be some award for completing it. Some live for this type of challenge.
Fins and Things – Rating 4 – no special equipment is required

This is another Moab trail I have enjoyed. It is amazing how OHV tires stick to slick rock. It is 2.8 miles long and it takes 2.8 hours to finish. When you come to the end of this trail you will have had your ups and downs. It is like dune riding but the ground is as hard as a rock.
Poison Spider Mesa – Rating 6 – 30-inch tire minimum
I like the name of this trail – it hints of mystery. The description says that you will experience technical rock climbing, see beautiful arches and enjoy dune riding. It also reads, “One of the greatest aspects about this trail is riding on top of Moab cliffs where the overlooks can make the most novice onlookers feel the breadth of Moab.”
Moab Rim – Rating 7 – 32-inch tire minimum and maximized ground clearance
I took this trail a long time ago on an ATV with 25-inch tires, so I must have avoided the steps exceeding 30 inches and the thrilling obstacles. That doesn’t mean I didn’t have “a thrilling ride with breathtaking vistas of the iconic Moab scenery” as offered in the description. I did, and it is one of the Moab trails that I can say, “I did that on a little ATV.” I also get myself in trouble for bragging like that.
