URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – A two-month-old baby has passed away following a multi-vehicle crash in Urbana on Thursday night. The crash occurred at the intersection of Philo Road and Colorado Avenue, involving four vehicles, including a Chrysler Pacifica with a mother and her three children as passengers.
According to the Urbana Police Department, the crash initially involved three vehicles, but further investigation revealed a fourth car, a GMC Envoy driven by a Champaign resident, was also part of the incident. The GMC failed to stop at the intersection, clipping a Subaru Outback before colliding directly with the Pacifica. The impact caused severe injuries to the two-month-old infant, who was critically hurt in the crash.
After the collision, the GMC flipped and collided with a Chevrolet Equinox. All four occupants of the Pacifica were transported to Carle Hospital. The mother and her two older children were treated and released, but the infant was transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where they later passed away.
The driver of the GMC has been issued two tickets for disobeying a stop sign and driving without insurance. The Urbana Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation, with the Office of the Medical Examiner in St. Louis looking into the cause of the infant’s death. Anyone with information is urged to contact Urbana Police or Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS.
