On March 13, at approximately 12:50 a.m., the St. Francisville Police Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on U.S. 61 near La. 10 East. The crash claimed the life of Jeremy Matthews, of Ethel, the department reported.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Matthews was walking southbound on U.S. 61. At the same time, a Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound on U.S. 61 and struck Matthews, who was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota were properly restrained and uninjured, a news release said. Although impairment is not suspected, the driver provided a voluntary blood sample. Impairment of Matthews is unknown, and routine toxicology results are pending.
