A woman has been accused of stealing a food delivery driver’s car after leaving the hospital and causing a three-vehicle crash on Arapahoe Avenue, which shut down all lanes Monday morning.

According to a release by Boulder police, at 6:15 a.m. Monday, police were called to the area of 48th Street and Arapahoe Avenue on a three-vehicle collision. The woman suspected of causing the crash suffered serious injuries — and was transported back to the hospital.

Two others were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

Police discovered that before the crash, the woman left Boulder Community Health’s Foothills Hospital and stole a food delivery driver’s Toyota Camry that was left unattended and running.

The woman then drove the Camry onto Arapahoe Avenue and struck a Toyota Highlander that was traveling westbound, police said. Next, the Highlander crossed over the median and struck an eastbound Lexus RX450, according to the release.

All three cars are believed to be totaled, according to the police. The 29-year-old woman is facing two counts of vehicular assault, aggravated motor vehicle theft and reckless driving.

All lanes of Arapahoe Avenue were closed following the crash.  In a 6:43 a.m. post on X, Boulder police asked the public to avoid the area and take other routes. In a subsequent  8:19 a.m. post on X, Boulder police reported that they had reopened all lanes of Arapahoe Avenue between Foothills Parkway and 48th Street.
