Williamsburg woman killed in crash after being hit by train

Police say there were no other injuries reported.

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - A Williamsburg woman is dead after she drove onto railroad tracks in front of an Amtrak train.

The crash happened around 4:30 Monday evening.

“A white 2019 Toyota Highlander crossed the railroad tracks into the path of (n) Amtrak train carrying 90 passengers,” police said.

The driver, 39-year-old Sarah Jones Mazariegos died at the scene.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of the Toyota Highlander crossed the railroad tracks on a private road crossing, failing to stop at the sign controlling the crossing, and failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming train,” police said.

No other injuries were reported.
