AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — One person was killed, and another injured, when a pickup truck pulling a 12' U-Haul trailer, hit a cinder block covered restaurant sign near I-40 and Western Street in Amarillo.
According to police, the driver of the Toyota Tundra, a 50-year-old man from Fountain Hills, Arizona, lost control of his pickup and rear ended a 2017 BMW X3.
This caused the BMW to careen into the center cement divider for I-40.
After the Tundra struck the BMW, it crossed I-40, the grassy median, the south frontage road, and slammed head on into the sign for Rudy's "Country Store" and Barbecue.
The driver was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
His passenger, 58-year-old Julia Grubb from Fountain Hills, Arizona, died.
The BMW eventually came to stop in the grassy median separating I-40 from the south frontage road. The driver of the BMW was not injured.
The crash happened around 3:35 p.m.
