New BMW iX3 reveal date announced

The first production model of BMW’s new ‘Neue Klasse’ family of vehicles, the next-generation iX3, will make its global debut in September, with the start of production scheduled for late 2025.

The upcoming iX3 will be built at the firm’s Debrecen-based manufacturing facility – the first BMW Group assembly line that exclusively produces electric vehicles (EVs) – in Hungary.

In addition, the future release of the midsize emissions-free SUV (or sports activity vehicle (SAV) in BMW speak) signifies the start of BMW’s broader plan to introduce more than 40 models, inclusive of updated versions of existing derivatives and new products, over the coming two years. The latter includes the launch of a ‘sporty’ sedan in 2026. The company has also announced the release of a hydrogen-powered model in 2028.

The carmaker is keeping its cards close to its chest surrounding details about the iX3, however. Yet, as we detailed in the June 2024 issue of CAR magazine, the iX3 will be based on the Bavarian brand’s sixth-generation eDrive platform.

The all-electric SUV will also feature redesigned electric motors and a battery pack incorporating more energy-dense lithium-ion cells. In addition, a quartet of high-performance computers, dubbed Superbrains, will consolidate the computing power of such functions as infotainment, vehicle access, climate control, automated driving and driving dynamics.

“With the Neue Klasse, we are implementing the biggest future-focused project in the history of our company,” says Oliver Zipse, chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.
