Dramatic footage has captured the moment a dangerous driver crashed into a parked car in Rhyl. Macauley Jones, 27, had wanted to put his foot down "to see what his car could do".
It resulted in him causing significant damage to several parked vehicles with two cars written off after the incident on Ellis Avenue in the seaside town. Jones, of Wellington Road, Rhyl, narrowly missed a member of the public who was working on his car and had to jump out of the way.
The video played in court shows the defendant's Audi A3 hurtling along the 20mph residential street before ploughing into a parked car in a cloud of debris and smoke. He damaged a Corsa, a Fiat, a Range Rover and a BMW aswell as writing off his own car and the Corsa. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here
At a sentencing hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court on Wednesday a judge decided Jones could be rehabilitated. He gave him a 12-month jail term but suspended it for 18 months. He ordered him to do 150 hours of unpaid work and 30 days of rehabilitation activity.
The judge His Honour Timothy Petts told Jones he had driven recklessly at high speed down a residential road. He said: "It seems you put your foot down to see what the car could do in a moment of stupidity.
"You managed to write off a couple of cars and narrowly missed someone who was working on their car in the street."
