For the eighth time in 16 months, Tesla is recalling the Cybertruck, with the latest issue impacting 46,096 vehicles. The recall involves all 2024 and 2025 model year Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to February 27, 2025.
Documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the recall is necessary as a panel on the vehicle can detach while the vehicle is in drive, possibly creating a hazard for other drivers.
The cosmetic panel, known as the cant rail, is joined to a stainless steel panel with structural adhesive, according to the NHTSA. On the impacted vehicles, the cant rail stainless steel panel may delaminate, which can cause the panel to separate from the Cybertruck.
Owners of affected vehicles may hear a noise inside the cabin and might be able to see the paneling coming loose or separating.
Tesla has received 151 warranty complaints related to the issue. So far, the company is unaware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries that are or may be related to the problem.
To correct the issue, Tesla will replace the cant rail assembly at no cost to owners. Affected owners will be notified of the recall via letter starting May 19.
Tesla has recalled the Cybertruck eight times since it was first delivered to customers in November 2023. Delivery of the trucks was already two years behind schedule when the first customers began receiving their Cybertruck.
Prior recalls have involved problems with the accelerator becoming stuck, the tire pressure monitoring system, the rearview camera display, and trim pieces that could fly off from the truck bed.
