Welcome to Photos of the Week. We begin this week with a shot from @Larry, of his 1993 BMW R100 GS in Bolivia, “terrain looking like Utah, after I dropped my bike earlier that day in soft sand on the road and broke off upper part of windshield.” This, and the following five shots, were taken over the past few years. First, in Kansas with a pair of friendly police officers. “This is me when I picked up a little speed to deal with a wicked crosswind. Cops let me off with a warning, nice boys.”
Below, “heading past Cali toward the Pacific coasts for a bit, these boys [army in Columbia] stopped me and did a very light search looking for cocaine and weapons, then released me with a smile when I threw them a bag of apples.”
Here, a beach in Cuba, “west of Santiago. I got to Cuba on the Stahlratte, a German sailboat voyaging from Cancun, Mexico area to Cienfuegos, Cuba and 3 weeks of touring, then back same way and on home to Nova Scotia.”
His ’93 BMW R100 near Economy, Nova Scotia, “showing the epic proportions of the Fundy Tide … the boat had a reverse-V keel to keep it upright with falling tide.”
In Peru, his 2015 BMW 700GS in “desert-like conditions in northern Peru with ocean backdrop. After this picture I helped some young people from Lima get their car out of soft sand on an up angle, me driving.”
“Bikers lining up for crossing of Mackenzie River near community Arctic Red River, which is where many years earlier before there was any thought of a Dempster Highway, fly in only. I was a young post manager with the Hudson’s Bay Company.”
Death Valley riders
Here’s a shot from @Ender303 of his friend’s F800 GS (Ender303’s bike is a 1200 GSA, not shown) coming out of Echo Canyon in Death Valley. “March of 2024 on a quick warm-up jaunt to Inyo Mine before heading over to Saline Valley later that morning.”
Down in Baja
Here’s a pic of @Cptwrongwaypeachfuz’s 2020 KTM 500XCFW. “Suffering in Baja … another rutted whooped out arroyo.” Pic taken a few days ago.
Over the river
Here’s a photo from @Kiwial in New Zealand. “The old (and new) Kawerau river suspension bridge in NZ, build in 1880, is the site of the first commercial Bungy Jump at 43 m/141 f in 1988, an activity originating from Pentecost in Vanuatu but developed by New Zealander A.J.Hackett, with the highest commercial Bungy Jump today at 260 m/853 f from the Zhangjiajie glass bridge in China.” This photo was taken a few days ago. The bike is a Suzuki GS-X.
To the lake
From @BansheeBiker this shot of a 2019 KTM 1290 Super Adventure, “taken just east of Tokyo, Japan, heading up to a small dammed lake we found. Easy little trail snaking up the valley.” Photo taken a few weeks ago.
Alabama!
Here are some shots from @Evh1. We’ll try to match the pix with the descriptions he sent. Here, a “glorious spring ride in lower Alabama.” This, and the rest of his contribution, taken a few days ago. The bike is a 2022 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
“Dogwood trees blooming.”
“Trail lunch satisfies.”
“Old deer camp complete with restroom room stop.”
“A flooded roadway beckons and I had to do it … successfully!”
Service under a tree
Here’s a shot, taken a few days ago, from @The Bear. “Taken outside the oldest church in Australia, the photo shows my friend Peter’s Yamaha Super Tenere with custom striping. The fenced-in tree in the background is where services were held before the church was built. It therefore dates back to well before the European invasion of Australia in 1788. Tree and church (and bike) are in Ebenezer, west of Sydney.”
Lost Coast
From @Aces 6, a shot to finish up this week’s POTW. That’s a 2016 Honda Africa Twin, photographed more than six months ago. “Fourth trip riding the Lost Coast. Each ride over the last decade a different experience from mud bogs, fogged in views to hard dirt and an endless sea. No ride is ever the same. This was the final leg of a loop starting in Sonoma County, California, up over Sonora Pass, the Northern California BDR, Klamath Falls, Oregon, then some self-made tracks from Oregon to California across the Smith River Wilderness Area (more than I bargained for), through the Redwoods, Lost Coast and down HWY 1 to Sonoma County. A great 14-day ride seeing the best of California.”
That’s it for POTW this week. We hope you’ve enjoyed the show, and do come back next week for more!
