IT was lovely to see these old cars in this nostalgia photo.

The picture shows - what are now - vintage vehicles parked up at the Cobb Gate car park in Lyme Regis.

We asked readers which cars were parked up in the car park and we were also trying to identify which year the photo was taken in.

Thanks to hemipacer265, who, all the way from Australia, has named the cars as follows: "The first car/hatchback to the left of the photo is a 1981/82 Datsun Cherry or named a Datsun Pulsar here in Australia and from 1984 onwards they were badged as Nissan Pulsar here in Australia.

"Vauxhall cars here in the 1980s were named/badged as Holden Astra. One obvious car parked near the carpark wall is a Mini possibly a late 60s or early 70s Mini Cooper."

Tabitha Francis told us she could see a Mini Cooper, Austin Metro, Fiat 127, Vauxhall Cavalier and BMW 3 series in the photo.

But coming up trumps with his automotive knowledge has to be reader Simon Jones, who has very comprehensively had a go at naming all of these old cars - and the vehicles on the road too, one of which we had already named as a Southern National bus.

He writes: "From right to left the row in the centre facing away from the camera; Vauxhall Carlton (not a Cavalier), Citroen GSA, Renault 5, Talbot Horizon.

"The car in front of the Carlton is a Renault 16, in front of the Renault 5 looks like a Metro, then another Renault 5, then another Metro.

"In the far row is a Mini, then maybe a Ford Escort, and maybe a Volvo.

"In the foreground the darker car is an early MK3 Ford Cortina.

"Not sure about the white car. Driving up the ramp looks like a Nissan Bluebird, and at the top looks like a Bedford Rascal..."

And finally, we were really pleased to hear from Jason Udall, who had an observation for us on the 'different utilisation' of the car park in this newer photo of Cobb Gate.
