NAUTA
A passenger in a vehicle with only one working headlight was found with 2.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine Friday, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court.
Dacia Naomi L. Nauta, 42, was charged Saturday with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony.
At 3:46 a.m., police pulled over a 2002 white Toyota Sienna on Chalan Ottot near Route 28. As they spoke with the driver about the broken headlight, they noticed Nauta’s hands were shaking uncontrollably, her eyes were darting around the vehicle and she kept reaching into her jacket pockets, according to the complaint.
Police asked the driver if there was anything of concern in the vehicle, and he said there was not. He gave them permission to check.
The driver and Nauta got out of the vehicle. As police were searching, Nauta “spontaneously uttered that there was a pipe located under the front passenger seat,” according to the complaint.
In addition to the pipe, they also found 2.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine under the seat, according to the complaint.
Nauta has a prior conviction for methamphetamine possession. If she is found guilty of the current charge, she could spend five years in prison, according to documents from the Office of the Attorney General.
She was released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond.
