On March 18, around 12:20 p.m., Hammond Police Department responded to a theft at Kay Jewelers, located at 201 Palace Drive.
Upon arrival, HPD officers learned two unknown Black females entered the store and asked to look at engagement rings. Believing they were legitimate customers, Kay employees assisted the suspects in trying on multiple engagement rings.
One of the suspects selected a ring valued at $3,889, and both suspects began moving toward the exit. Employees attempted to confront the suspects, but they ran from the store, police said.
The suspects entered an older model white Dodge Caravan operated by an unknown Black male. The vehicle fled the area prior to HPD’s arrival.
Both female suspects have tattoos visible on their arms and necks. The suspect in a white shirt has what appears to be feathers and numbers tattooed on her right arm, while the suspect in a red shirt has what appears to be “Joy” tattooed under her right ear.
Anyone knowing the identity of the suspects or with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Randall Baudier with the Hammond Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 985-277-5740 or Baudier_RF@hammond.org, Hammond Police Department’s Facebook page, or Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa’s anonymous tip line at 1-800-554-5245. Be part of the solution and you may be eligible for a cash reward.
