My Maruti Suzuki Jimny hits 40,000km milestone: Ownership experience

Here's a small update on my Maruti Suzuki Jimny after driving it for over 40,000km in a year and a half. I have modified it with multiple accessories over the period of my ownership

BHPian hemanth.anand recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Some updates about my Jimny ownership.
On the accessories front, I updated the stock steering wheel to a flat bottom steering wheel. The wheel is from the Brezza with a customized piano black and CF pattern hydrodipping on the plastic inserts.

While taller drivers say that an FB steering wheel gives them much appreciated leg room during ingress and egress, I went for this update for three main reasons
1. The thicker wheel gives better grip
2. The thumb contouring is good to hold
3. Aesthetics are much better

Purchased and installed an Inclinometer from Amazon.jp. This nifty device just needs a cigarette lighter connection.

It has a Gyro and GPS inside which not only gives the angle laterally and longitudinally, it even shows the GPS speed, Battery voltage, date & time and location of the Jimny.

Different displays

I added couple plastic storage panels on either sides of the gear console. I ordered this because it can be a nice place for me to keep my mobile/wallet and other small items. However it also served as a nice place to keep the mic unit of my CB radio base station.

One of the complaints of the Jimny design has been the very low positioning of the tail lamp cluster. There have been a few reports of trailing vehicles unable see the indicators and lights and crashing into a Jimny. Added a small LED strip at the top which is connected to the indicators and brake light.

On the driving front, The car has been munching miles. It crossed 40000kms earlier this month.

40K in a year and half

I had enrolled for a service camp organized by the CurbOver group for the 40k service. There no specific complaints and the service was normal. The service costed me ₹9125. I had a washable K&N stock replacement filter and the service advisor told me that they do not have the necessary cleaning kit. He advised me to get it cleaned later. He told that he'll keep the stock airfilter which is part of the service inside the car. I later put that stock air filter and gave the K&N for cleaning.

Recently in a workshop at office, we were asked to draw a car in 5 minutes. I attempted to draw the Jimny and I was happy with the final outcome in the limited time I had

Recently I drove to Sakaleshpura along with my family as part of an offroading group event which had many Jimnys together with Thars, Gypsys and other vehicles. It was a nice event in which I made many new like minded enthusiasts. We drove on some mountain trails and peaks.

I have a small collection of scale models and I definitely make a point to have scale models of the cars I've owned...sometimes more than 1 scale. Needless to say, I've Jimny scale models too...not one, not three but 7 different scales! I made some time and tooks some pictures of this collection
