The new generation of Chinese-Fijians have been urged to persist in learning Chinese culture while participating in Fijian cultural activities to foster mutual understanding of their shared heritage.

The Chinese Embassy celebrated the 170th anniversary of the Chinese arrival in the country, where Chinese Ambassador Zhou Jian says looking back at the 170-year history of the Chinese people in Fiji, the most precious spiritual value they have achieved is the spirit of hard work, unity, and dedication.

He says Fiji welcomed the arrival of the Chinese people, and they are grateful to the country.

The event was attended by students from Yat Sen School and representatives of the Chinese community, where they heard from Chinese representatives on the struggles they have faced and how they overcame and enjoyed Chinese songs, folk dances and crafts like calligraphy.

The Ambassador says they have become part of Fiji’s multi-racial and multi-cultural community and should contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

He urged the students not to migrate to other countries but to stay in Fiji, help the country prosper, and contribute to the relationship between the two nations.

He also says that as the transportation hub of the South Pacific, Fiji connects neighbouring island nations to the world, and he is hopeful for the establishment of a direct flight from mainland China to Fiji.

The Ambassador says Fiji has some of the most beautiful seasons, and many tourists are eager to enjoy the beauty of this country, especially during the vacation period.
