The introduction of the new flight will give Kenyan customers an opportunity to go to London either through Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Gatwick Airport (LGW).

It also means that Kenya Airways customers will be able to choose a second non-stop flight into London.

"Starting July 2, 2025, Kenya Airways (KQ) will begin operating direct flights to London's Gatwick Airport from its hub at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
"Kenya Airways will now serve the United Kingdom (UK) through two entry points," said Kilavuka in a response to TUKO.co.ke query.

The introduction of passenger flights to London's Gatwick Airport is part of the plan by the airline to expand its wings across Europe to rake in more revenue.

Kenya Airways on expansion plans

The airline has been on an expansion plan, adding more frequencies and starting new routes as part of a wider plan to rope in more passengers.

The airline re-introduced passenger flights on the Nairobi-Maputo route after a five-year break last year in June mainly due to growing demand for travel between East and Southern Africa.

The carrier stopped operating on the Nairobi-Maputo route in 2019.

The Maputo route is KQ's second destination in Mozambique, bearing in mind that it was flying to the city of Nampula in the same country from Nairobi before the addition of new flights.

The airline last year also re-introduced flights to Eldoret. It also increased its frequencies on destinations such as New York, Paris, Lagos, Accra, and Freetown.

The additional flights will see the airline rake in more revenues as demand for air travel continues to pick up ahead of the Easter season.
