Major car brand to revive iconic ‘Fast and Furious’ motors from the 90s as it reinvents series of retro classics

A MAJOR car brand is set to revive iconic "Fast and Furious" motors from the 90s as it reinvents a series of retro classics.
In celebration of the new Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the French brand unveiled another "window of opportunity.”
Speaking at the launch, group design chief Laurens van den Acker revealed the revival of Renault 4 and 5.
He said: “If you wait too long, people have forgotten about them.
“If you're too early, it's still not cool enough.
"Ten years ago, we did the [Alpine] A110. It was perfect, because it was a '50s, '60s kind of car, and we said 'we need to do this car now, because if we wait 10 years, they will all be gone'.

“And I think now is the time for '70s, '80s [cars], and in 10 years time we will be doing 'Fast and Furious' cars."
Fans can expect to see "Subarus, Hondas, Datsuns, [Volkswagen] Golf GTIs” hit the roads once again, van den Acker revealed.
Although, he added he models will “grow with the people."
This strategy could result in a revival of cars such as the Clio V6 or even the Sport Spider.

Both of which were rear-driven and could potentially be underpinned by the all-aluminum, rear-driven electric car platform under the 5 Turbo 3E.
Van den Acker explained this is possible thanks to blossoming relationships between engineers and designers at the Renault Group.
He said: "The times where designers and engineers were enemies are long past.
“Now we work together like never before, and it's the way to go, because that makes this sort of stuff happen."
Van den Acker added he wants to “make the best of the past and the best of the future”.
The launch of the 5 Turbo 3E is the latest in a series of retro revivals from the French brand and comes as part of van den Acker’s overall vision for its future models.
It comes after an ultra-rare Fast and Furious-inspired car dubbed "slightly mad" went up for sale for £79,000.
The MG XPower SV-R model was one of only 42 made.
In celebration of its 20th birthday, the unique 175mph car officially hit the market.
The XPower SV-R can do 0-60mph in just five seconds, and has a 4.6 litre V8 325 bhp engine.
The model is regarded as the rarest MG ever made and it only has 10,500 miles on the clock.
It was sold by classic car dealer DM Historics, as reported on Luxury Auto News.
A DM Historics spokesperson said: "The SV-R, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, is a piece of British automotive history: the rarest and most potent MG of all.
"It's a car with a fascinating backstory, styled by the designer of the McLaren F1, Peter Stevens and inspired by the Fast and Furious films.
"The SV-R represents a time of plucky optimism in the UK's motoring industry.

“It took the fight to the supercar establishment in the early 2000s - the likes of Ferrari, Porsche and Maserati - combining V8 power with a cutting edge, lightweight, carbon-aluminium construction.
"Now a cult performance hero, and one of just 42 cars made, it's got all the makings of a true British classic."
