Dodge County couple arrested for animal cruelty violations

Two Dodge County residents have been charged with animal cruelty after a February incident had officers find a starving dog in the couples care.
On Monday, February 24, a deputy with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address in the southwest portion of Dodge County for a report of an animal mistreatment allegation. The deputy located a female poodle mixed-breed dog that was severely malnourished, in the garage area of the residence. The two year old dog was surrendered to the Dodge County Humane Society, who then transferred care to a veterinary clinic in Dodge County who attempted to save the dog, but it eventually died March 7th.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division requested a forensic necropsy on the dog, and It was determined that the dog was severely emaciated and died as a result of chronic starvation. On Tuesday, March 25, deputies returned to the residence and arrested James and Tashina Dettloff for animal cruelty violations and transported them to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
They’re due back in court May 1st for a preliminary hearing.
